Beavers

Welcome to information on Obuasi Beaver Colony!

Beaver Scouts are 6-8 years old and they meet weekly.  The Colony re-opened in 2014.  They have a strong Leadership team who have encouraged the Beavers to try activities, games, crafts, singing, visits and plenty of outdoor activities.

They can also take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers.

We have a Beaver Scout Leader and an Assistant, however we are always happy to hear from any adult willing to help in this section please get in contact.

What’s the best thing about Beaver Scouts? Activities, trips and making friends are all part of what makes it so much fun for girls and boys. As well as earning activity badges, many Beavers Scouts get to go on camps and sleepovers, often for the first time. Beaver Scouts like:

  • Being creative – making things and singing
  • Playing games
  • Going on visits and investigating nature
  • Learning about themselves
  • Getting to know other people
  • Discovering the worlds of science, nature and technology
  • Exploring the natural and manmade world
  • Caring – responding to the needs of others, the local and international community

Superheros and Super Villains seen in Romsey!

July 23rd, 2017

The planning was over, the paint was dry (to start with) and  every hand was put to the pump to decorate the lorry Harris Transport had kindly lent us.

The sun shone as we started putting our float together – the top secret theme of Superhero & Super Villain was finally unveiled!  There was stapling, sticking, stacking and stringing going on and everyone was enjoying the sunshine.  Everyone changed into their Super costume – from Super Scout to the Joker – and the judges came to view our efforts.

Then came the rain!  After patiently waiting for the results 3rd were jubilant to have received the Best Decorated Trade Vehicle!  So spirits were high ready for the actual carnival procession – fingers were crossed that the rain would stop in time.

No such luck – as Winnie the Pooh says “The rain, rain, rain came down, down, down in rushing, rising riv’lets” and it did NOT stop all the way round Romsey.  3rd Romsey have every right to be very proud of their young people, even though they were wet and cold they kept on waving all the way round the carnival route and had big smile for all the brave souls who can to watch and support!

Thank you to all the wet people who stayed behind and helped us to take the decorations off the lorry – your help was very much appreciated in very trying circumstances.  Also huge thanks to our young people who were brilliantly costumed and extremely well behaved, the Leaders for giving up their time, the parents who were good humoured and happy to do anything required, to our lovely driver who gave up his Sunday afternoon to drive us, the Carnival Committee for organising the event and the mad people of Romsey who stood in the rain waving and donating money to good causes!

Annual get together!

June 16th, 2017

It was a summers evening for our Annual Review. It was lovely to welcome County, District and Group members to share the highs of the past year in reports and photos.

The Cubs had everyone singing along and the Beavers showed off their rocket – and boy did it go!

The Explorer Scout Young Leaders for the Scout Section were presented with the Explorer YL Belt and Certificiates – they have worked really hard to achieve this and the Group are all very proud of them.

Tea and cake followed – with some socialising!  Thank you to everyone for your help and support – and to the young people for making it worthwhile!
